Target Audience For My Soap Opera (Moorside)

Audience Profile For Moorside

When creating Moorside, I pictured a particular target audience in mind that would be attracted to my soap because its set in the countryside and people who live within the countryside are either quite wealthy or just getting by as it can be a expensive lifestyle, so people who are living between the living classes E - B will watch this soap.

In terms of age, I predict my target audience will be adolescence plus because the main story lines within this soap will be unpredictable involving Sex, Criminal Activity and Moodiness and this is what Youth's tend to do; following the Stanley Hall (1904) theory. Although it could be argued the age of my target audience may be a variety of ages because of the large cast acting because within soaps on television there are characters aged between as young as children to elderly, representing a member of the British audience and therefore attracting them to watch. On a whole there may not be a particular age for my target audience to be suitable to watch this soap.

The target gender I would like to attract to watch Moorside would preferably like to be woman because stereotypically its females who would spread the soap by word of mouth about how interesting or exciting the storylines/plot may be in the soap, encouraging more and more people to watch the soap for their own purposes; falling under the Blumer and Katz theory.

The soap may not be suitable for anyone who not British because after analysing successful and popular soaps such as EastEnders and Coronation Street, they tend to provide some British pride in terms of the characters actions as well as props within the background. So people who are proud to be and love the British lifestyle will be attracted to Moorside falling under the Medhurst theory; 'They are awful because their not like us.'
