Creation Process For My Front Cover

This is the beginning of my creation process for my front cover image, I had chosen this black background because it will fall under the expectations for my target audience in terms of how colour could represent mood and black could connote depression and etc meaning it will be suitable for the Youth theory Stanley Hall.

Secondly I applied the main image of my model for this process, this is an image of Jessica Benn sticking up her two middle fingers, making it suitable for the target audience because after analysing Kerrang's! front cover the star vehicle Hayleigh Williams was being explicit too, this will fall under the Gaunlet theory because its re-arranging of the old and re-making of the new.

The masthead (magazine name) is then added, this must be added in terms of common conventions for a magazine front cover. This will attract the target audience because in terms of the design of the masthead, it contains cracks like glass and this could connote emotions and violence, this will agree with the Stanley Hall youth theorist as he also states "teenagers aged between 14-25 are involved with crime, sex and are moody."
The yellow opaque box was then applied to the image, which will later contain text of star vehicles, this will be very suitable for the target audience because the end result will be similar to a police "Do Not Cross" tape that is placed within a crime or investigation scene, this will connote violence and fall under the Stanley Hall theory.

Whilst the transparent black box at the bottom of the screen will also contain star vehicles of famous celebrities within the rock genre, attracting the target audience who fall under the Blumer and Katz theory. This idea was also inspired by Kerrang! rock magazine.

The choice of colours of these boxes were quite important because not only will the theme be continued within the contents page to make it also suitable in terms of the common conventions for my Loud Rock Magazine, but these could connote mood such as depression and etc once again falling under the Stanley Hall theory.

This is the product when the text containing the star vehicles are added, this is important to add because it will encourage people who fall under the Blumer and Katz theory to read this magazine as it may contain a star vehicle that contains plenty of fans, encouraging them to purchase and read this magazine for their own personal purposes.

But within the rebellious yellow box containing more names of star vehicles at the top of the magazine, I also added cracked stars in the feature because this will make it look more effective in terms of mise-en-sense,

The main feature of the storyline was applied "Jessica Benn Exclusive Interview" this is important for the magazine as it will then be following the common conventions for the magazines that are sold upon shop shelves. This will help attract many of the target audience's attention as the main teaser stands out in terms of colours and boldness, encouraging them to glance at the magazine and judge wither they wish to read/purchase this magazine or not.

I then made the "exclusive interview" text stand out even more by placing a yellow opaque box behind it, this will be a useful technique in terms of mise-en-sense because it will help encourage the target audience to view this magazine and decide if they are interested in purchasing this magazine or not, following the Blumer and Katz theory.

Also to make my magazine look even more realistic, I added another common convention such as the barcode, editing the numbers and etc to make it look more original, obviously  this would have to be added to make it suitable to be even sold within a shop like other magazines that are on display to attract their target audience.

In terms of adding more text/teasers/story headlines of star vehicles in the rock genre, the theme of the font still continues in terms of the colours, yellow and white, this is important because it makes the magazine look more natural in terms of its appearance to attract the target audience.

Here is the magazine when images are added upon the front cover, these are important in terms of common conventions because it will once again attract the target audience's attention who are fans of these star vehicles, especially when their is a frame around each of the image to make them stand out even more to encourage the target audience to pick up and view the magazine for their interests.

But in terms of mise-en-sense, I deliberately had chosen the image with my model about to trash a guitar because this will connote that this magazine is under the rock genre with its rebellious act, meaning it will be suitable for the target audience who are falling under the Stanley Hall theory.

This is then the finishing product, of adding a graffiti styled arrow with the text stating "Free poster!" This was important to add within the image because not only will it represent youth in terms of being rebellious, but the free poster was also applied upon my Kerrang! analysis on their front cover. So to make my magazine more suitable for the target audience who are passionate about their rock genre music, this will encourage them to purchase this magazine for the free goodies.

Magazine Institution Prezi

This Prezi is what was done within one of the Media lessons, this is a prezi based upon music magazine institutions, there is a variety of institutions and there is also a list of what the institutions publish. The reasons why I have placed this in my blogger is because it explains not just the star models I have chosen, but it also can demonstrate the other successful magazines that are globally recognised.

Future PLC Magazine Institution

FUTURE PLC

The company began in 1985 and have operations in the UK, US and Australia. They have created over 180 special-interest publications (Katz and Blumer 1974 theory target audience) and are passionately dedicated to their readers by making websites and events. Future PLC also are one of the market-leading positions in games, films, music, technology, cycling, automotive and crafts.

Their biggest selling magazines are:

·        T3
·        Total film
·        Classic Rock
·        Guitar World
·        Official Xbox Magazine.

The most popular websites the company own are:

·        GamesRadar.Com
·        BikeRadar.Com
·        TechRadar.Com
·        MusicRadar.Com
·        PhotoRadar.Com
·        CyclingNews.Com

The company obviously provide a wide range of magazines to target a variety of audiences, especially the audiences who fall under the Blumer and Katz 1974 theory; as they claim “audiences target a specific magazine for purposes such as: diversion, personal identity …. and surveillance.”

Future PLC have attracted over 23 million visitors on their websites and host 27 annual concerts that will attract a very large amount of people. Their publishing in over 90 countries internationally and therefore this makes them the UK’s number one exporter and licensor of monthly magazines.

Classic Rock

The first issue of Classic Rock was published in 1998 and it was featuring Guns N Roses and the journalist who was insulted by the band’s main singer (Axl Rose) with the track called “Get in the Ring” on Guns N Roses “Use Your Illusion 2.” The journalist was called Mick Wall. Immediately this first issue attracted a large audience because of the main storyline behind the successful band and the popular rock album.

But as the magazine became to become even more well-known/successful it began to feature more successful huge bands such as Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith and etc.
The idea of Classic Rock originally started off as a one off idea, but after a short period of time it became one of the UK’s best selling music magazines and has attracted much attention as well as respect of many of the Classic Rocks biggest names.

In September 2012 it published its 150th issue and now has a higher circulation than the NME magazine.

Classic Rock has become so successful that it even hosts its own awards ceremony called “The Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards.” An annual awards programme that began in 2004.

Set Up Photo's For My Magazine

This is an image of me preparing my model for her photo-shoot. I applied make up and arranged her make up and clothes to make it suitable for the magazine cover first draft I have planned. The style of her make up was important because it had to be suitable for the light of the camera as well as the style for my genre, applying the dark eyeliner.

Here is another photo of me taking photo's of my star vehicle model for the front page of the rock magazine I am creating. This image demonstrates I have the ability to use a camera and can position lights.

This is image shows me taking a photo of my model with her guitar, a prop that is suitable for the rock genre magazine cover.

This image demonstrates I am aware of what a reflector does and this also shows that I can use it to make a effect upon the presentation of the end result.
